Another important element of aligning IT to supporting the organization is ensuring IT is using mature processes. We have developed a unique approach that allows us to assess an organization using the Capability Maturity Model© (CMM) and Information Technology Infrastructure Library© (ITIL). Our methodology uses education as a key component during the assessment to teach the staff, in a non-threatening way, that the issues they face every day are the result of immature IT processes (e.g. change management, problem management). We have successfully used this methodology to improve the performance of IT organizations regardless of size, in a measurable way.
